How to Select a Board

The perfect board is the one that makes you happy. So be creative, have fun and don’t overthink your decision. Our boards can be used every day and/or displayed as an artful gem in your home. Below are the steps to assist you in making your selection

Step 1 - Classic or Legacy Collection?

Classic Collection

Our Classic Collection features single and double live edge Cherry and Black Walnut boards, available in lengths of 9” 14” 18” 24” & 30”.

 

Each board is designed with subtly routed edges on the underside of both ends. This allows for easy handling of the board, while preserving the wood’s natural beauty and character.

As each board is crafted from natural wood, variations in grain pattern and character are to be expected. While each piece is uniquely its own, the board will be plus or minus one-quarter inch of the stated length. The width and thickness will be within the range shown.

Legacy Collection

Charcuterie 1’s Legacy Collection features

one-of-a-kind charcuterie boards. Each board is entirely unique, no two will ever be the same. Once a Legacy Collection board is sold, it will not be recreated or restocked, ensuring your piece remains a singular expression of both nature and artistry.

During the milling process, every log is carefully examined and stragetically milled to reveal the striking grain patterns and natural contours. From this process, only the most visually compelling and distinctive boards are chosen to become part of the Legacy Collection. Multiple wood types are offered including Black Walnut and Cherry. Sizes range from 20” to over 40” in length.

When you flip over your Legacy Collection
board, you will see the “Charcuterie 1 Legacy Collection” and "Grown & Made in the USA”
logos branded into the bottom of the board. This signifies its authenticity, exclusivity, and one-of-
a-kind craftsmanship.

Step 2 - Make Your Wood Choice

Black Walnut is known for its varied patterns and rich colors from light brown to dark chocolate brown. It is a timeless wood that will enhance any gathering.

Cherry is highly valued for its warmth and durability. Its fine grain provides a silky surface.
It is a wood that can be used for everyday or special occasions.

Golden-brown wood with distinct grain lines.

Mulberry* has distinct coloring that highlights its grain. Its predominately yellow color makes you think of summer. If you want a unique board made of wood few people have then this is for you.

Smooth wooden surface with natural grain patterns.

Honey Locust* has a lot of personality. It is durable, yet elegant and shows off tones of caramel and cream coloring.

Apple* is rare because it seldom reaches a usable size. This wood has straight fine grains presenting a uniform texture. The warm colors vary from light brown to deep red brown.

Box Elder* is a close-grained wood with a fine texture. It is light in color and sometimes has streaks of red which makes the Box Elder a unique board.

Step 3 - Single or Double Live Edge

Live edge refers to the natural edge of the tree without the bark. Whether the live edge is relatively straight
or has curves, it highlights the natural flow of the tree. Charcuterie 1 offers both single and double live edge
boards; what you choose is merely a personal preference.

Single Live Edge

One of the long sides of the board retains the live edge while the other side is finished with a straight smooth edge. Single live edge boards have a narrower width than double live edge boards.

Double Live Edge

Both long sides of the board have a live edge preserving the natural shape of the tree.

Step 4 - What Size Board is Right for Me

The size of board you choose depends on how many guests you plan to serve, the variety and quantity
of items you wish to include, the spacing of those items, and your personal preference. Here is a general
guide for helping you choose the size you need.

9” A wonderful addition to pair with your other Charcuterie 1 boards or for serving a simple snack
or dessert.

14” and 24” For gatherings of 2-8 people, these boards are well suited for a wide array of foods.

24”& Up For large groups, boards of this size provide many options for your entertaining needs.
